Self made solar balloons from black plastic foil.
I came up with the idea from a french website and i remembered that in the end 70ts ore early eighties
there were solar balloons for sale in the shops at my town.
I called this project Solar Flair, and nowadays it is unique here in Holland.

black plastic foil / 0.05 mm thick To built a sigar shape isn't that difficult, just put the ends of the foil together and ...Voila. But if you want to built other |
I bought myself some foil and made a giant sigar shape balloon, 6 meter in length and 1,20 meter in hight. I tested the balloon on some field in the neighborhood, but the sigarshape balloon didnt flew as good as it should.

shapes you need a building plan. |
The Solar Flair project : Solar Flair one . |
For a building plan you can make a drawing of how the balloon should look.
When you have finnished your idea, than its time to make a model, i usally make a model from paper but i also tried from plastic ( that didnt work well for a smallmodel.)
As i progressed with the SolarFlair project i made a drawing plan to change the shape of Solar Flair One and started to build the Solar Flair Two.
|
The Solar Flair Two was difficult to fill with air , how to fill such a balloon? After a while i came up with the idea of building a small fan from a computer cooler. |
|
Solar Flair Two had very good flight capabilyties becouse of the enveloppe, which had most of the heated air on top.
lifting capacity of about 2 Kg. |
